The purpose of this experiment is to introduce circular motion, by finding the mass of a bob and then verifying its mass using scales.
Equipment:
Stopwatch
1 meter ruler
slotted masses
tube
rubber bob
Method:
Connect a 50g mass to the bottom of the string. Use tape to mark on the string, so you know when it is 1meter long etc.
Spin the bob, so as to maintain the radius of the string for the applied mass (which is equal to centripetal force).
Complete the following table:
Trial number
Radius

To find the speed of the spinning bob we use v = d / t
where d is the circumference of the circle the bob makes when you swing it and t
is the time it takes to complete one period.
so v = 2 ᴨ r / t
Use Fc = m v2 / r to determine the mass of the bob.
